On this very auspicious occasion of Mayo College Girls’ School’s 26th Foundation Day, MCGS celebrates a 26-year long journey of laughter, tears, blood and passion, and figuratively cuts the birthday cake. The celebrations began with an amicable morning Teachers vs. Students soccer match in which victory was only marginally bagged by the students. After a hearty post-game breakfast, the school assembled to greet our venerated Chief Guest, Smt. Meira Kumar, five-time Member of Parliament and first woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The school presented a short movie on the growth of the school over the past 26 years, followed by some motivational words and commendations by our Chief Guest. A soulful rendition of our recently penned School Song, and the National Anthem followed after.
We could almost taste the excitement in the air as children buzzed through the day, anxious for the evening’s School Fete. Students of Mayo College, staff, parents and alumni too joined the celebrations and flocked the various food stalls, games booths and jukebox area. A whole evening of non-stop gala and festivity resulted in a tired, but sated school community all keyed up for the year ahead.
