Prize Giving Celebrations 2013

As the end of this eventful year approaches, Mayo College Girls’ School embraces the 2013 Prize-Giving Ceremony celebrations, for the first time with our new Principal Ms. Kanchan Khandke. The celebrations value the hard work and achievements of the school in the past year, be it material or intrinsic rewards.

The first day of the 3-day ceremony began the inauguration of the exhibitions by Mr. and Mrs. Khemka, the parents of the outgoing school captain, Mahima Khemka. The various departments, clubs and societies of the school took it as an opportunity to display their experiences of the past year and exhibit their creativity and innovation in various fields, everything from Information Technology to Home Sciences to Sports. The Annual Sports Display followed in the afternoon, which encompassed the finals of various track events, Inter-house drill competition, relay races for parents and alumni, a Junior School Yoga display, and also the distribution of the various Sports Trophies and Special Awards. The entire demonstration was presided over by Ms. Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest, and a former national level Volleyball player.

The Variety Entertainment Programme the same evening brought everyone together for a fabulous display of the Cultural pursuits of the students. The Jamila Singh House girls performed Bharatnatyam and Kathak classical dances, and put together a Hindi Play. The Senior School also demonstrated themselves in a Choreography - an enactment of a poem on the atrocities faced by women. The school team for the IPSC Cultural Festival also performed their Chhau Dance – a form of Gujarati Folk Dance.Kelsang Choeki Namgyal did a solo voice recital on a Whitney Houston number, and the Jamila Singh House students gave a Group Song Recital. The Grand Finale of the evening was a medley of dance performances by students of 4th, 5th and 6th standards.

On the evening of the 30th of October, the Dramatics Society of the school created their own rendition of the famed play ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, directed by Bollywood celebrity Mrs. Salome Roy Kapoor. It included various musical numbers such as, ‘Matchmaker, Matchmaker’, ‘Tradition’ and ‘Miracle.’

On the 3rd and final day of the celebrations was the Prize-Giving Ceremony. The Chief Guests for the event was the UK High Commissioner Sir James David Bevan and his wife, Lady Janet Bevan.
