A delegation of twenty girls accompanied by two teacher escorts Mrs Poonam Bhargava & Ms. Smita Goyal travelled to New York for the WAFUNA International Model UN conference held from the 1st to the 4th of February. The conference was organized at the Hotel Grand Hyatt where as the opening and closing ceremonies were held at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in the UN Headquarters. Three students from the delegation were elected as chairpersons of their respective committees. The conference began with a workshop by former UN officials to give a better understanding of the dynamics and structure on which the real UN works as the central aim of the conference was to connect students to the actual working of the UN. It was an enriching experience for the girls as they understood the UN in its true sense. After the conference came to an end the girls got the golden opportunity to visit the office of the Permanent Mission of India to the UN where they engaged in an interactive session with Indian diplomats who work at the UN representing India. Apart from the conference the girls got the prospect to discover the UN headquarters, New York City, Philadelphia and the capital city of Washington DC. The post conference tour was organized by the Muncafe . In New York city the girls visited the Liberty Island, Grand Central Station, Time Square, New York University, 9/11 memorial, wall Street, Federal Hall, Central Park and the cityscapes of the NYC. Further, the girls travelled to the first ever capital of the United States, Philadelphia where they got the chance to visit the Independence Hall, The first supreme court of the USA, and the Liberty Bell. On their way from Philadelphia to DC the girls visited the university of America the University of Pennsylvania. On reaching Washington the girls discovered the US capitol, Rocky steps, Vietnam memorial, Korean memorial, Abraham Lincoln memorial, Jefferson memorial, residence of the US President the White House, Smithsonian air and space museum, and the Museum of Natural History. The girls got the rare chance to attend a talk at the research institute of CATO known for advance research on International affairs and American foreign policies. In a nutshell it was an exciting and memorable trip for the delegation as well as the teachers.
